چکیده

Remote sensing has been shown to be a promising technology for the detection and monitoring of plant stresses including insect feeding. Popillia japonica Newman, is an invasive species in United States, pest concern soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merr., upper Midwest. To investigate effects P. feeding injury (i.e., defoliation) on soybean canopy spectral reflectance yield, field trials with plots caged plants were established during summers 2020 2021. In each year, field-collected adults released into some plots, creating gradient infestation levels resulting injury. Estimates caused by , ground-based hyperspectral readings, total yield components obtained from plots. Injury was greatest infested . Overall mean across lower, middle, canopy) ranged 0.23 6.26%, which representative observed fields Midwest States. Feeding tended reduce measures near infra-red wavelengths (~700 1000 nm). These results indicate that remote potential could facilitate scouting this pest. Effects not observed, but reduction seed size detected one two years. The threat posed alone appears minimal, adds guild other defoliating insects whose combined threaten yield. research will guide refinement management recommendations hold relevance cropping systems.

Physiological status of male and female Popillia japonica (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) affects mating and grouping behavior.

Because mating may be costly, sexually active males or females are predicted to be in relatively good physiological condition and may preferentially direct their mating behavior toward relatively high-quality mates. We tested this hypothesis in Japanese beetles (Popillia japonica Newman), a pest species in which males and females may be either isolated or in aggregations while feeding on host p...

Impact of Japanese beetle (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) feeding on seashore paspalum.

Ten cultivars of seashore paspalum, Paspalum vaginatum Swartz, were compared for their response to Japanese beetle, Popillia japonica Newman, larval root feeding. Cultivars of Bermuda grass, Cynodon sp., and zoysiagrass, Zoysia sp., also were included for comparison. Turf grown in pots in the greenhouse was infested with second and third instars in this 2-yr study. Grub survival and weight gain...

Revision of the genus Stictospora and description of Stictospora villani, n. sp. (Apicomplexa: Eugregarinida: Actinocephalidae) from larvae of the Japanese beetle, Popillia japonica (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae), in Michigan.

Stictospora villani n. sp. is described from larvae of the Japanese beetle Popillia japonica (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) from southern Michigan. Stictospora villani is distinguished from known species of the genus by differences in gamont size and by structural details of the epimerite. In general, S. villani is smaller than other known species of the genus and possesses an epimerite with a marg...

Effect of tillage on abundance of Japanese beetle, Popillia japonica Newman (Col., Scarabaeidae), larvae and adults in highbush blueberry fields

At 15 commercial highbush blueberry farms, fields where row middles were tilled had 72% lower larval density of Popillia japonica than fields with grass in row middles. Popillia japonica larval populations were similar in the perimeters of tilled and untilled fields. Soil parameters measured in these sites were not correlated with larval density of P. japonica. Samples of adult beetles on bushe...
